Nature, it is said, dictates that the best makeup consists of clear skin and a good night's sleep. But given
that this is an imperfect world, and (though we'll deny it to the last) we're imperfect girls, sometimes nature needs a little helping hand. So we reach for the pots and potions, and slap layers of what's essentially pigmented grease onto our faces to conceil mother nature's shortcomings and our own bad habits.
But making up shouldn't mean covering up, says makeup artist Feride Uslu. Instead of slathering, Uslu developed a method of airbrushing a fine layer of liquid makeup - about the consistency of milk - onto the skin. The difference is amazing: fully made up you feel like you just moisterized, and with only 10 percent of conventional makeup's coverage, the skin's natural beauty is enhanced, rather than completely concealed.
It was her professional secret, but for Fall 2001 she's generously launching Usluairlines, an airbrush system for everybody. Consisting of a pen-sized airbrush, a compressor and a full arsenal of micron-liquid colors, the system takes a little getting used to, but the look and feel is totally unforgettable.
And though getting set up with all the equipment will run you a little more than your monthly pilgrimage to MAC, Uslu explains that with the right usage, her colors should last about ten times as long as your old stuff.
But who cares? If you can still look as fresh as Ket Moss after a night of Cosmopolitans and Cohibas you'll be throwing out all your old greasepaint anyways. The only thing better than mother nature is cheating the vindictive old bitch.
